A legacy to make a lasting difference

A bequest to Presbyterian Support Upper South Island is a simple way to make a big impact.

Here are some of the ways your gift will help.

  • Your gift will fund social services that create a better New Zealand for all who live here, regardless of circumstance, culture, or religion
  • Your gift will help vulnerable people of all ages to become safe, strong, and connected
  • Whatever its size, your gift will make a positive difference
  • You will ensure your values and beliefs live on to benefit others

If you would like more information about making a bequest to Presbyterian Support, please contact Rae Thomas or phone 0800 477 874 or 03 363 8209.

We would love to hear from you!

Making a gift in your Will

When preparing your Will, we recommend you seek the assistance of your family solicitor or a trustee company (such as the Public Trust or Perpetual Guardian Trust), to ensure your wishes are properly recorded.

You will also need to tell them what kind of gift you’d like to make. There are a variety of ways to leave a gift in your Will to Presbyterian Support Upper South Island (PSUSI), depending on what suits you best:

  • Residuary Bequest: here you make a gift to PSUSI of what is left over or a percentage thereof (the residue) in your estate after all expenses and debts have been settled and your loved ones have been provided for.
  • Pecuniary Bequest: a specified sum of money in your Will is gifted to PSUSI.
  • Specified Bequest: this is where a particular item of value (for example stocks and shares, property or works of art) is gifted to PSUSI in your Will.
  • Whole estate: an entire estate is usually left by someone without beneficiaries or who wants to achieve something very significant.

Wording your Will

To make sure the wording in your Will accurately describes your intentions, we recommend including one of the following clauses.

“I give to Presbyterian Support Upper South Island [a percentage of my estate] or: [the residue of my estate], or: [the sum of $], for general purposes. I declare that the official receipt of Presbyterian Support Upper South Island, signed by the Chief Executive or other proper officer, will be sufficient receipt and discharge for my trustees”.

Bequests ‘for general purposes’ can be used where the need is greatest. Alternatively, you may prefer to support and specify an area of our work, or region, that is of special interest to you.
