These hours will be split between two roles:

The purpose of this Community Family Worker role is to:

Provide individualised support, advocacy, case management and engage additional network connections for individuals and whanau, particularly those where family harm has occurred or is at risk of occurring, to promote mental and emotional wellbeing and enhance family relationships. This service includes contributing to integrated networks and prevention initiatives in the Greymouth community.

The purpose of the Youth Transition Worker role is to:

The aim of this role is to provide a more gradual and supported transition for young people from care, to help them get a good start to their adult lives. The role is to assist young people in the development of skills and knowledge over time, support them to develop and learn from their experiences with a focus on building and strengthening a network of support, which can endure into their adult lives. Transition workers will take a youth-led approach that empowers the young person to have more say and increasing responsibility for themselves.

The role engages and networks with the services and activities within the broader community and Presbyterian Support Upper South Island.

Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an ideal applicant?)

  • At least 2 years of experience in social work with Social Work or similar qualifications 
  • Professional Registration with relevant professional body 
  • A working knowledge of relevant legislations including Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and Domestic Violence Act
  • Knowledge of relevant community networks and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to respect and adhere to confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Intermediate computer and office equipment skills including the use of email, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 applications, and databases
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to develop relationships
  • Openness to and enjoyment of differences in values, beliefs, and cultural practices including gender identity, sexual orientation, and differing levels of ability
  • Willing and competent to work safely with a diverse range of cultures including Māori and Pasifika
  • Full clean driver's licence and ability to pass a Police vet check
