This year, Matariki is observed on 10 July.

Matariki is a time to gather with whānau, to remember those who have passed, and to reflect on the year gone by.

Across our communities, it might be a shared meal, stories around the table, or a quiet moment to pause and take it all in. As the colder months settle in, it also becomes a time to look out for one another in small, meaningful ways.

In Te Ao Māori, hauora (holistic wellbeing) is about balance. Over winter, it is often the simple, everyday things that help keep us well. It might be wrapping up warm, enjoying nourishing kai, or getting outside for a breath of fresh air.

It might be checking in with how you are feeling, sending a message to someone, or taking a moment to rest when you need it.

Ahakoa te pō, ka ara anō te rā - Even after the darkest night, the sun will rise again.
