Organisation and details

Presbyterian Support Upper South Island (PSUSI) is a registered charity and relies on the support of individuals, groups and organisations to carry out our important community work.

Our vision ngā moemoeā is for an equitable, compassionate and inclusive society. Our mission is enhancing the mana of whānau to be safe, resilient,  and connected.

Since 1908 our organisation has been delivering services from service centres and community venues located in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, Hakatere/Ashburton, Rangiora, Māwhera/Greymouth, Whakatū/Nelson and Te Waiharakeke/Blenheim.

Skills/competencies sought

We are particularly seeking expressions of interest from qualified lawyers or accountants with Māori whakapapa, or mana whenua who have experience working with non-profit organisations like ours in the community. Preferred location is Ōtautahi or the wider Waitaha region.

 

PSUSI has a commitment to be  a Tiriti o Waitangi dynamic organisation, with co-governance and co- leadership as a central part of our kaupapa.


Interested candidates must demonstrate a genuine passion for our mission and the ability to collaborate across diverse communities to achieve positive outcomes.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who can bring some of the following attributes:

  • Legal or financial expertise through professional qualification and/or experience

  • An understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi and experience working with iwi and/or ethnic communities

  • Sound governance experience

  • Strong community engagement and vibrant networks

  • Awareness of emerging social and environmental issues

 

A Ministry of Justice criminal background check will be required.

 

 

Commitment required

Successful candidates are expected to attend up to 12 board meetings annually. These are held on the first Thursday of every month at 5:30pm and last approximately 90 minutes.

Appointments are for a three-year term.

Remuneration

The board member role is voluntary (honoraria is paid). Child-care/babysitting costs are reimbursed if needed for Board/Committee meeting attendance. Travel expenses are reimbursed for non-Christchurch residents.
